01 The story, in three paragraphs

Why everyone keeps coming back.

Nestled in the charming neighborhood of Sanur Kauh in Denpasar, MD Warung Indian Food offers an authentic and vibrant Indian culinary experience that is both comforting and exciting. This inviting open-air restaurant captures the essence of Indian flavors infused with the warmth of Bali’s laid-back atmosphere, making it a must-visit for anyone craving genuine Indian cuisine with a local twist.

The menu is a celebration of classic Indian dishes, crafted with bold spices and fresh ingredients that come alive on every plate. Diners rave about the Butter Chicken, praised for its rich, creamy tomato sauce that perfectly envelopes tender chunks of chicken, paired wonderfully with perfectly flaky Paratha. Another standout is the Rendang, a luscious and aromatic beef curry brimming with deep, complex flavors that linger delightfully on the palate. The Indonesian Noodles with Chicken and succulent Pork Ribs showcase the restaurant's creative fusion approach, delighting guests with unexpected layers of flavor.

What truly elevates the dining experience at MD Warung is the sensory journey—each dish brings an explosion of savory, spicy, and subtly sweet notes that unfold bite by bite. The veg samosas are described as the best some patrons have ever tasted, with crisp, golden exteriors giving way to warm, spiced fillings that spark nostalgia and joy. Likewise, the lentil curry boasts comforting depth, embodying the very soul of traditional Indian cooking.

The ambience is cozy and casual, with an open-air setting that naturally blends with the tropical surroundings. It lends a refreshing breeze and genuine connection with the local community. While the outdoor environment occasionally carries the scent of nearby smoke, this minor detail does not overshadow the overall warmth and welcoming vibe. Guests enjoy engaging with locals and feeling part of a friendly neighborhood vibe that completes the dining adventure.

Value is another highlight at MD Warung. Reviewers frequently mention the reasonable prices that contrast impressively with the high quality and generous portions of food. One diner broke down their bill of just over 200,000 IDR (around NZ$20) including appetizers, mains, bread, and beverages—testament to the excellent bang for your buck.

Whether you're a seasoned lover of Indian cuisine or new to the delights of curries and spices, MD Warung Indian Food promises an unforgettable meal that tantalizes every sense. From the moment you taste their phenomenal curry to the last sip of an ice-cold Bintang beer, your palate will thank you for the journey. With an energetic buzz drawing in both locals and travelers alike, it’s clear MD Warung has earned its place as a beloved culinary gem in Bali’s diverse food scene.

For anyone wandering through Denpasar, a detour to MD Warung is like discovering a hidden treasure where passion for authentic Indian fare meets the charm of Bali’s vibrant street life. Be sure to come hungry, ready to explore culinary delights that will undoubtedly leave you eager to return.

Had the Indonesian noodles with chicken (DELICIOUS) And the pork ribs(ALSO DELICIOUS!) And would highly recommend. It is open air, so if someone is smoking nearby you'll smell it, but overall, loved that it was around the corner and terrific food.

We ordered from here just by luck and it turned out really good. I often have Butter Chicken and this one plus the paratha was very well done. Fair price as well.

Phenomenal curry! All the reviews are right, it was delicious and very well priced. 200k for an appetiser, 2x mains, one main with additional break, 2x cokes and 2x Bintangs. So reasonable for just NZ$20! Really want to go back and eat here again before we leave. We were the first table in around 6.30pm and by 8pm it was packed. Gojek orders were also flying out the door, at least 6 in the couple of hours we were there.

Sensational. I know my review is going to be edited later as it was my first visit but can’t wait to go again to share my review. Food was outstanding. Veg samosas and lentil curry. Best samosas I’ve had in my life and I pride myself in my own homemade Dahl but WOW! Will devour the whole menu in the coming months. Without doubt. A joy to chat with local neighbours. It was the best evening of my week. Fabulous salad, samosas and the Kamala curry was great. Excellent nasi Goreng and the burger is great too. (I’ve been back many times since the first review - didn’t eat it all at once!) Arrived at 6, tables filled up. I will be sure to arrive early again to not miss out. Thankyou Marta and the kitchen and floor team. I felt like I was part of a family and it’s rare that you find that in a cafe.

Got here just after 9pm on a quiet night. Ordered a beer, 2 dishes and a rice and just over 200'000. The Rendang was a cracker. Plenty of beef and lots of flavour in the beef and the gravy amd the hot and sour chickpeas were nice and spicy. Huge Cheese Paratha as well

The food was amazing. We shared 4 dishes and they were all delicious. Service was a little slow, maybe just a tad busy but overall it was fabulous.

Excellent food. Very tasty. Super friendly owner. Highly recommend the lamb and beef rendang curry. It's not a fancy place. But if you want to mix it up with a few locals and eat some delicious food for a great price, this is a place to check out in Sanur.
